For the school year 2013-2014, I’d like to share my message to the students of my dear Faculty of Arts and Letters.
Greetings in the name of St. Thomas Aquinas!
Every year, we are faced with different challenges which not only develop the potential in each Artlet but of a more crucial matter. It is a reminder of the essence and nature of genuine service to our fellowmen instilled with the three core Thomasian values: compassion, commitment and competence through a liberal and responsible practice. This year we embrace the roots of our 50th year as the premier Liberal Arts and Humanities College of the University of Santo Tomas. For 50 years, our beloved Faculty has shined by creating bright, wise and talented individuals. On its golden year, the long running legacy shall continue not by shining but thru illuminating the studentry and the Faculty itself.
In line with this, it is important to remember that leadership begins from within. Being the best of what you are at this moment; equipped with the vision and purpose in the line of service to others. To be on top and greater heights is to be able to know thyself truly. Compete not with the people around you but with yourself. A Thomasian Artlet must be able to identify his strength and weaknesses; aiming for improvement because being the best won’t always be enough but rather being a better student leader will. A great leader is remembered not by his projects or achievements but remembered because of the people he/she has inspired and influenced whose lives have changed forever. Take every opportunity to teach yourself and learn from others. If you find yourself lost, do not be afraid to seek help from others. Admitting the need for other’s help is a strength many yet to discover. Through every success and lessons learned, never forget to thank the Almighty One. Keep the faith and continue guided by God’s grace. Bear in mind that thru Him, everything is made possible; let Him be your strength at all times.
You are a Thomasian Artlet in every way. Now, as you look back at every life changing experience, we are in good hopes that you shall carry and share your knowledge and experiences to others so they can also illuminate. Embody the virtues of our Faculty and university and you shall see yourself in the illuminated path as beacons of tomorrow’s generations. With this, I bid best of luck to your future endeavors! May you bring with you everything you have learned and always look back at this with a smile.
I am looking forward to a fruitful academic year 2013-2014 with you!
Thank you very much and God bless!
